Mays Almoosawi’s latest body of work, You Are Your Own Home, highlights the self, identity and who we truly are within ourselves when nobody is around. She examines the concept of home as one’s sanctuary, a place where women can fully let their guard down. She therefore imbues her works with a sense of intimacy that draws in the viewer and invites them to identify with their own emotions and authenticity vis-a-vis her own reflections. Whether through her immersive scale and powerful strokes of her paintings or the intricacies of her sculptures – her jewel tones and deep hues add a sense of warmth and vitality evoking a welcoming familiarity.
