About The Artwork

Part of the artist’s practice is examining her own adolescence. Magic, in this case, as a fixture of the artist’s girlhood. Wicca, and witchcraft more broadly, experienced a resurgence in the early 2000s; her older sister, a teenager at the time, was a practitioner, and often involved her younger siblings in magical rituals, for rain conjuring or love spells. Magic’s association with the feminine, as well as sorority, is integral to its symbolism within the artist’s work; as a device to both alleviate and to facilitate congregation outside social restraint.
