“Echoes of Diaspora is a testament to the intricate interplay between individuality and collective identity within the Palestinian diaspora. Through the medium of Islamic geometric art, I explore the emotional tapestry of my journey – a narrative woven from threads of hope, despair, guilt, and profound pride. The vibrant colors echo the spectrum of emotions, contrasting and blending as individual shapes emerge from the carefully crafted patterns. Cutting through the complexities, I dissect these geometric compositions, mirroring the fragmentation experienced by those dispersed from their homeland. The title alludes to the resilience found within the shattered pieces, symbolizing the strength and unity that persist despite the challenges faced by the Palestinian diaspora. Each fragment, meticulously reassembled, becomes a metaphor for the collective spirit that transcends geographic boundaries. As a member of the diaspora, I grapple with conflicting sentiments – the ache of a connection to a homeland I’ve never physically known, the dichotomy of safety versus longing, and the tension between forced hope and surrender to a higher power. The artwork prompts contemplation on the privilege and punishment of being away from one’s roots while maintaining an unbroken connection to them. The modular composition of 18 pieces allows for versatile displays, forming four sets of mini-wall sculptures, each with 4 or 5 elements. These sets can be arranged individually, in pairs, or as a complete panoramic overview, resembling a landscape of shared memories and collective dreams. Like the diaspora, the artwork prompts reflection on identity, belonging, and the collective longing for a homeland amid fragmented memories. Resilient Fragments: Echoes of Diaspora invites you to explore the myriad ways in which our narrative unfolds, offering a visual and emotional journey that adapts and reshapes itself, much like the individual stories that constitute the larger collective experience.”- Noor Abuissa
