Anassir is the fourth online exhibition on Emergeast curated by Nikki & Dima
Al Muftah’s visual practice explores her identity through themes surrounding memory, her native cultural heritage and their subsequent documentation. Anassir (Elements) exhibits an amalgamation of components in Al Muftah’s multidisciplinary practice showcasing her 360 profound exploration of recording collective memories and personal experiences through the passage of time.
Anassir gathers different phases in time where the stories coalesce across space through a greater narrative, immortalizing past experiences into a contemporary setting.
The featured series in Anassir, titled “Fataraat” (Phases), collectively represents an evolution of Al Muftah’s artist’s books that symbolize imprinted recollections on the subconscious mind. The series tackles the erosion of intimate moments over time in today’s hyper developing world.
“I like to show my final pieces as though they are a part of my thinking process. I paint with spontaneity and gestural free flowing brushstrokes, aiming to deliver an almost tangible sentiment in each piece.”
Through large scale articulations, Bouthayna Al Muftah’s latest solo show presents an immersive experience, offering a dialogue between traditional and contemporary culture through a journey between the past and present.
