Artist’s Story

Mohamed Sharkawy, uses a minimalist approach to his art / Utlizing flat colours and clearly defined shapes, Sharkawy has an ability to render images that have a universal appeal / Each form and figure are deduced to the essentials that his work is reminiscent of wall paintings of Ancient Egyptians / His two-dimensional drawings have become his trademark / Removing all unnecessary details and using solid blocks of bright primary and secondary colors, Sharkawy’s unadorned work is a vision of childlike simplicity to communicate the fundamentals of life / Sharkawy first showcased his practice at Townhouse Gallery, Cairo – with two solo exhibitions / After his move to Bahrain in 2009, he exhibited in a number of group shows at Al Riwaq Art Space and the Financial Harbor Gallery, culminating in a solo exhibition at Al Riwaq Art Space in 2012 / After his participation in the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York in 2013, Sharkawy presented new work at Al Riwaq Art Space under the title of ‘Memories Factory’ / He lives and works in Manama, Bahrain /
