Artist’s Story

Abdi Asbaghi has been engaged with the world of surrealism since he learnt how to paint / Creating illogical scenes from objects allows him to invite people into his dreams and unravel his mysteries / Abdi's creative journey begins by tearing the back of his canvases as he begins painting them, he fills them with objects such as paper, fabric, cloth and newspaper and ties them together with ropes and tape to certify that even small parts with underlying layers can remain hidden, in order to deliver valuable messages / Sharing reality and secrets with his audience / The Qajar paintings derive from our past history, Abdi decorates them with newspaper and other materials to protect any destruction of time, even if they are wounded and torn, they maintain their integrity and harmony / In Abdi's world, the Qajar era is still very much alive and celebrated only this time with a personal and contemporary touch .
